Parish Council Meeting Notes: Wednesday, June 20th, 2024

Holy Family Church 6:30 p.m.

1.     Present – Mary Pendergast, Denise Jakubiak, Val Cyr  - Regrets from Zenaida and Glenn Saldanha, Don Clark, and Fr. Jay.  Val Cyr noted that Paul Cyr is no longer Grand Knight so will not be representing the Knights on Council; it will be Brian Beaton now, who is taking over as Grand Knight.   Opening Prayer offered by Denise Jakubiak

2.     Agenda Approved:  Recognizing Fr. Jay having just arrived home from emergency surgery at the hospital, it was agreed it would be a quick meeting, with updating on the various items on the agenda.

3.     Notes/Minutes of the April 17th Meeting approved.

4.     Follow up on Council Objectives:

▪     Greeters/Welcoming Ministry:  Denise reported that it has become very easy now as people will step in to the role of welcoming ministry if the person assigned is missing or absent.  She has invited a summer resident – Susan Dalzail – to participate over the summer months and she is willing to help.

▪     Children's Mass – planned for June 16th was unable to happen due to Fr. Jay's sudden serious illness. We agreed this would be attempted again in the fall, as the summer months would be difficult to organize.

▪     Social time after Mass?  We discussed the possibility of a social time after the Cemetery Mass, planned for August 4th at Indian River Cemetery.  Prior to Covid we had coffee/food in the Festival Pavilion following that mass, which might be a good exercise to revive. ACTION: Mary will check with the Festival and follow up.

▪     Spotlight on Parishioners -  Susan and Erskine Ashley have agreed to do a brief talk, first planned for June 23rd, but Susan was not feeling well, and Fr. Jay was not up for anything additional to mass, so it will be presented another time.  I would like to have another summer resident present in late July or August again – always nice to hear from this welcome addition to our community!

▪     Monthly Events Calendar -  We agreed this has been a great addition to our Parish activities and Fr. Jay's efforts are appreciated.  At this time, June is almost over, and we will continue to add events/activities as they come up.

5.     Upcoming Events/Needs:

▪     Diocesan Meetings:  June 25th is the meeting regarding parish structure – it is unlikely Fr. Jay will be able to attend, and no one is available to attend the June 27th meeting of Parish Council Chairs or members. We will have to rely on the reports from these meetings which I will try to obtain for everyone.

6.      Other Matters:   CWL organization?  Val and Denise asked about the structure now of the CWL for which Dot Peters has been acting as contact person, as there are no 'officers' at the moment.  It appears that things are currently uncertain with the CWL, which is unfortunate as this is the 100th Anniversary of the CWL for the St. Mary's Holy Family Parish. It would be nice to celebrate that milestone in an appropriate manner at some point in 2024.  ACTION: Mary will see what we can find out about the origins of our parish CWL – to honour our mothers and grandmothers.

          7.       NEXT Meeting:  Wednesday, September 25th , 6:30 p.m.
